In magical autumn weather on 25 November 2009, TQ welcomed the members of the COG (Component Obsolescence Group) of Germany to its quarterly meeting at the TQ headquarters in Gut Delling. After a company presentation by TQ Managing Director Rüdiger Stahl, Ulrich Ermel explained the Obsolescence Management system at TQ. This was followed by other presentations, such as that on "Advanced Life Cycle Engineering" by Prof. Michael Pecht from the University of Maryland, as well as reports by the COG work groups.
The COG Germany is an association which deals with the problems of obsolescence. Obsolescence is used in the electronics market to denote the unavailability of products which arises, for example, due to discontinued components or cancelled software support. The COG interest group promotes the exchanging of information between its member firms regarding how to handle discontinued components or cancelled software support, and develops aids for assisting its members in their daily and long-term business projects.
